Quick Start Art (QSA) is just me, Rob Lunn. It's all about my love of oil painting and sharing my journey from complete beginner up. I love seeing students get passionate about oil painting. Once you get past the initial scary bit, oil paints are actually a very forgiving and inclusive medium. Although my workshops are technical in nature, there’s still a big emphasis on having fun.
WHY ‘QUICK START’?
The 'Quick Start' part is about getting students through those scary first steps and helping them learn to develop their own journey. It’s NOT about cutting corners or using ‘gimmicks'. QSA is a nuts-n-bolts oil painting approach that breaks the painting process into easy-to-follow steps. I’ve basically designed the workshop I wish I’d had at the beginning of my painting journey.
MASTER COLOUR MIXING
Light and colour mixing is at the heart of all of my workshops. We use a limited palette of 6-colours plus white, which, with practise, enables students to mix virtually any colour found in nature. Students learn a structured approach to colour theory that’s predictable and repeatable.
NO EXPENSIVE KIT LISTS
On my QSA workshops all the materials you’ll need are provided, and we only use the best, Michael Harding Oil Paints and Rosemary & Co brushes. You’ll even get some specially designed printed tools to take away with you. PLUS, there’s a FREE 48-page Workshop Handbook PDF that’s designed to keep you painting when you get home. NO STINKY WHITE SPIRIT OR TURPENTINE FUMES, we only use lovely Zest-it to clean our brushes and dilute our paints.
SUBJECT MATTERS
Work from specially prepared reference cards that are designed to ease you through the oil painting process. With options for complete beginners, as well as more experienced painters, each student can choose from still-life, portraits, landscapes or pet portraits.
